Peronia Adolescente is an association legally constituted in 2004, working for a fairer reality for Guatemala. It facilitates spaces of integral formation, using games, art and alternative sports, promoting leadership and volunteering of adolescents and young people of scarce resources who are vulnerable in Ciudad Peronia.
Friendship Bridge’s history began with its work in Vietnam providing medical education and shipping medical supplies to impoverished populations in war-ravaged areas. While medical supplies were positively impacting the lives of recipients, Friendship Bridge was looking for a more sustainable solution to poverty reduction — the solution was microcredit. In 1994, we shifted our focus from medical supplies to microcredit and began offering small loans to impoverished women.
Creamos was initiated in 2008 as a social entrepreneurship initiative for 20 women who had historically relied on collecting, recycling, reusing and reselling items scavenged in the garbage dump, in addition to other forms of risky work, to make a living. In the years since, the organization’s offerings have expanded dramatically to include both a robust emotional support program and an accredited adult education program in addition to safe and sustainable income-generating opportunities.

Lan Vwa began when our founder went to Haiti to help deliver aid after an earthquake and became involved in educational efforts. Our name translates to “the voice” in Haitian Creole, reflecting our efforts to return what poverty has stolen from citizens of developing areas - their voice. As Lan Vwa grew, successful programs have been implemented in Haiti and Guatemala. There is a growing gap in learning and economic opportunities between rural and urban areas worldwide, with the largest disparity in low-income countries. Project Alianza is looking to change that in Latin America through our women-led, community-driven initiative to close the region's rural-urban education gap. Our adaptive learning model upskills and hires local women as educators to create and curate experiential, interactive learning for children in remote communities.
Bicicloteca, is a mobile library composed of a bicycle and a suitcase/box full of books, which travels the streets and avenues of Zone 6 of Mixco, announcing itself for a storytelling function and free reading time. Bicicloteca is also a community library, it receives children daily, to enjoy more than 800 books on its shelves; it also shares various board games and art materials. Over time a community of readers is being built, who borrow books to take home.
Like many other Latin American countries that share the Pacific and Caribbean coastline, Guatemala is experiencing a crisis of development and overfishing, exacerbated by the lack of opportunities, income alternatives and the scarcity of scientific knowledge about the true state of the different fishery resource populations, mainly chondrichthyans. Faced with this situation, Mundo Azul Foundation has initiated its efforts to generate scientific information that advances the level of knowledge about sharks, rays and other fisheries.
