Chajulense Mayan Association (AMACHAJUL) AMACHAJUL is a Guatemalan Mayan Ixil non-profit organization located in Chajul, Guatemala. The Ixil region is a post-conflict community that suffered an ethical cleansing during the 36-year internal armed conflict. Schools were closed for 36 years. Today there is deep poverty and few opportunities for women and girls to break out of the cycle.

Like many other Latin American countries that share the Pacific and Caribbean coastline, Guatemala is experiencing a crisis of development and overfishing, exacerbated by the lack of opportunities, income alternatives and the scarcity of scientific knowledge about the true state of the different fishery resource populations, mainly chondrichthyans. Faced with this situation, Mundo Azul Foundation has initiated its efforts to generate scientific information that advances the level of knowledge about sharks, rays and other fisheries.

Founded in 1992, Local Hope (Xela AID Guatemala) provides low- and no-cost health and mental health care and clean water support; intensive support for education including a Montessori Preschool, Educational Scholarships, a Study Center and Adult Literacy Program, and certified COVID-safe Computer Lab; a Leadership Certificate Program, job skills training; and social services included a Special Needs Program for Children and Youth with Disabilities and a budding program for senior support. Since 2009, LWH has nurtured an education ecosystem, connecting green construction, formal education, equitable international volunteerism, and active participation in 21st century problem-solving.
