Mission, vision & values

Mission

Our mission is to improve the quality of life among Guatemalans living in extreme poverty through holistic community development with the provision of basic housing, support programs and community building for health and education programs.

Vision

Our vision is a Guatemala without poverty, exclusion, and dependency, in which poor families no longer have to endure inhumane living conditions. Through community development in the areas of housing, education, and healthcare, these families become socially and economically stable.

Values
We value professionalism, transparency, efficiency, cooperation spirit, service vocation, honesty, and integrity.

Products, services, and programs

Products

We have different Constu Casa souvenirs. We also have a support program for low-income families which has created a team of women that works in beaded jewellery making and other accessories for sale. This group is special as they represent the families affected by the volcano in 2018.

Services

Through our services we build houses around Guatemala for people who do not have a decent home to live. Our key service is the construction of houses, however we work any construction that the community, family or neighborhood needs. Schools, clinics, sports fields etc.

Programs

We over several different programs:

  • Ambassador Program: We encourage and empower volunteers to become the face and image of the institution and to support the organization to continue supporting.
  • Jewellery program: It works mainly with the families affected by the 2018 volcano
  • Follow-up program: During 4 years we elaborated a follow-up of the family after the construction to see how their living condition has changed.
  • Health Program: Once the House is built, we focus on seeing how they are on the health issue, supporting them to have a decent stove and water filter.
  • Education program: This is given along with the follow-up and training of products or work is implemented, this always under the accompaniment of the entity responsible for the community.

Primary issue(s) / need(s) addressed

The community issue we target is the lack of a decent homes for families in Guatemala. Our statistics are based from research from the beginning of the 2000s, and we always focus on the lack of housing and quality of life of Guatemalans. It is what motivates us to be able to cover this need.

Impact, adaptations & objectives

Impact to date

We have impacted more than 1500 families. 90% of families used to live in overcrowded conditions with three or more people living in each room. When families received their new house, this number reduced to 7%.

70% of families have made improvements to their homes after the initial construction. 100% of families reported they feel more secure in their new house against both natural and human treats (earthquakes, weather, and delinquency).

Impact measuring

We measure our impact with a follow up program. Our follow-up program is for 4 years, where we ensure the development of the family after building their house and see that the primary needs have been covered and that they also have an appropriate use of the house. With this, both parties agree to have constant communication. This program works during this period of time and is a close accompaniment so that the family feels supported. Similarly, it is followed through the association or neighborhood committee with which the first contact was made.

Organizational adaptation details

Size and/or structure

The team has grown and the strategy need to always innovate has also changed over time.

Short term objectives

Growth

We plan to build in more communities.

Quality

The programs have grown due to the high demand due to the housing deficit in Guatemala, which has allowed us to grow in our quality of construction and to continue advancing to more innovative issues such as our ecological houses.

Impact

This allows us a greater impact within the community since this new model has environmentally friendly materials and other innovative features.

Long term objectives

Growth

To better cover the entire country.

Quality / Impact

Being able to migrate to green buildings would be our long-term dream since this would allow us to generate an impact not only on the housing deficit but also within the environment. With more ecological houses we help the family also have a clearer concept about the care of their basic services.
