Mission

Our mission is to help Guatemalan women affected by extreme poverty and / or domestic violence achieve financial independence, stability and a life free of violence through individual development, traditional and vocational education, and work placement programs.

Vision

Our vision is that Guatemalan women in around Sacatepéquez have viable options to escape a life affected by domestic violence and / or extreme poverty and pursue independence through work & education.

Products, services, and programs

Products

Pa'nibal sells menstrual cups at our cost as part of our goal to support women through alleviation of financial burden & promotion of healthy habits. We occasionally sell clothing, jewelry, handcrafted goods or beauty services to support our residents' incomes.

Services

Many residents of Pa'nibal offer discount beauty services to members of the local community (hair styling, manicure, pedicure).

Programs

Or primary residency program provides a place to live, three meals daily, healthcare, childcare, scholarships and work placement for women accepted into our home as long-term residents. We also provide short-term emergency room & board for women escaping domestic violence. We also offer English and Taekwondo classes to members of our local community.

High risk is identified as a significant institutional history (orphanages, government shelters), active or recently active domestic violence case(s), extreme poverty, or a significant lack of standard education. Impact, adaptations & objectives

Impact to date

Pa'nibal has worked with ~150 women & children to date (January, 2021), providing one or more of the following: a safe home (3 months to 2 years), vocational education, traditional education, medical care, psychological care.

As of 2021, Pa'nibal has refocused its programs on long-term residency and education. Our goal is to provide healthcare, security, structure, work opportunity and accredited traditional education (through sexto diversificado) to ~8-12 full time adult residents annually. Most adult residents are accompanied by 1-2 children who receive the same benefits, minus work opportunities.

Impact measuring

Employment, education, and health data is maintained for all residents prior to and after their residency at Pa'nibal.

As of 2021, Pa'nibal has transitioned to education based impact measurement with goals and achievements defined in terms of accredited diplomas for traditional Guatemalan education through sexto diversificado.

Since 2015 we have grown our staff from 2 to 5.

We have transitioned from offering a secure home only to offering a home, healthcare, work placement support, and traditional education.

Location

We have moved from San Pedro las Huertas to Ciudad Vieja.

We do not intend to grow our staff or residency in 2021.

Quality

We plan to provide quality, in-house & in-person education - at the appropriate level for each resident - through sexto diversificado (acquiring diplomas through accredited distance programs) for all residents in 2021.

Impact

We plan to measure & accomplish impact primarily through adult remedial education & child education.

Long term objectives

Growth

We do not intend to grow considerably in the coming years.

Quality

We intend to better define & refine our educational programs with a focus on competency in foundational subjects - math, science, and language - beyond the minimal requirements to receive diplomas recognized by the Ministerio de Educacion.

Impact

We plan to improve impact through reducing attrition of our residency via measures intended to highlight the benefits of our programs and educate residents about the financial realities of independence.
