Open Doors 4 All believe that hard work, education, and opportunity are the basis of a prosperous life, healthy communities, and happiness. Quality education comes with not only enhanced work opportunities, but also an enriched community. By offering quality education, we can accomplish our goal of opening doors for all.
Our mission is to empower students with career focused education.
Our vision is to increase career opportunities for students in our English and Web Development programs.
We sponsor English and Web Development programs to help students get higher paying jobs.
Call centers and web development are growing fields that are bringing opportunity to Guatemala. Our English and Web Development programs help students learn career skills for better and higher paying work.
In 2017, 160 students graduated from our program. In 2018, 193 students graduated. In 2019, 258 students graduated.
Job placement data is not complete, but many students have told us that their English and web development classes helped them when applying for university, finding jobs as translators, working at call centers, and with their full time web development jobs.
We keep track of how many graduates we have each year in our spreadsheets. We try to contact past students to enquiry about their job placement updates and how they have used their English skills post graduation.
Size and/or structure
The number of students we have taught has shifted each year, which has in turn changed how many teachers and volunteers we needed.
We moved from the mini muni to the basement of the Casa Real, which are both spare city buildings in San Martín.
Way in which you collaborate or work with others
A new mayor got elected so we had to communicate with him to maintain a partnership with the city.
We want to do more student outreach so that more students will sign up for classes next year. This may be difficult because of COVID-19.
We want to apply for more grants, so we have more resources and scholarships for our students. We also want to find more volunteers from the States to talk with students over video chat to help keep students engaged while learning remotely.
We want to do more outreach with Call Centers and help with job placement so that more students can get jobs when they graduate.
We would like to find more grants and potentially become a fully private organization in a new building. Right now we partner with the municipal, and that can be stressful when a new mayor gets elected.
Integrate more teacher training and more focus on curriculum. We also would like to get our programs an official certification, and possibly even as a high school career track.
We will reach out to more call centers and also the tourist industry to make it easier for our students to find jobs.
